NEGATIVE!

Posted by Picasa
I'm starting to rethink the bright idea of a swing set. Monday we get home from school at 1:05p.m. Shelby runs right over to the swing and it starts. "Swing me! Swing me!" If I heard that 50 times I heard it 100 times. When Harry pulled up it was 3:55. She was still in the swing! Nothing I could bribe her with was enough to get her out of it. I tried every thing, golf cart ride, hot dogs, even candy. No, nothing. I was so glad to see Harry drive up. I turned it over to him. After about 5 minutes. she got out. That is 2 hours and 55 minutes. I had been swinging her. I don't know how her legs didn't go to sleep or fall off for that mater. Reagan got in and out about 4 different times and even had a 30 minute nap and Shelby never got out of the swing. I kept thinking she was going to have go potty at some point but it didn't happen until Harry got home. That was the first thing she did was go straight to the bath room.
So the real reason I started telling yall this besides the fact I wanted you to know how long I had to swing the child was this, Shelby and I talk to each other a lot. I mean a lot, remember she's a girl. So she tells me "Isn't' it a beautiful Day?" "No clouds in the sky" another time she says as she's swinging away, "It's a perfect day isn't it?" "Yes" We talk about the birds, (I have a bird feeder) the big ones are the dove and then there are the little finches and then the Cardinals and the real red one is the daddy and the not so pretty one is the mama bird. On and On and on, she talks. Well I had been pushing her for I guess 10 or 15 mins. and neither one of us had said any thing. So I finally said, "Shelby have you fallen asleep?" Now get this, she says, "NEGATIVE!" I'm like, "what did you say?" She says that again, "NEGATIVE!" I guess I'm in shock and I say to her, "what's negative mean?" She says in a disgusting tone, "No" it means "NO" Like I'm the stupid one. Now tell me this, what 3 year old says "NEGATIVE?" Go figure?

My Favorite Letter Carrier

That's the official term, Letter Carrier. But I'll probably always call him the "mail man." And NO we didn't get free stamps just because he worked at the Post Office! Any who this is a rare picture of my daddy in his postal uniform in front of his mail truck with my boys, Harrison and Travis. I love this picture.

Memory of the Letter Carrier
Well, if you will hang with me I'll tell you about the time I thought that I was going to witness a killing. Really...There was this young deaf lady and her husband and about 3 kids lived on Kennedy Street. Since she was deaf she got an SSI(subsistance) check for those kids. She and husband or maybe he was her live in boy friend had had a fight and she was not staying there but her check was still going that address, stay with me I'm laying a little ground work.It was the first of the month and checks were in the mail and they knew it and was looking for them. I was to deliver down one side of Kennedy, turn onto Elmwood St. and about ten minuets later come back up the other side of Kennedy St. the side that they lived on. After I turned onto Elmwood and stopped at the first mailbox I noticed that a car had pulled up behind my mail jeep. I didn't know the guy getting out of his car but in my rear view mirrow I recognized the deaf lady. The man came up beside the jeep and said he wanted to get that ladies check early before I got back around to her mailbox. I wasn't sure I wanted to do that but before I could say anything here comes a guy in a pickup truck pulling up in front of my jeep so now I am hemmed in. This big old fat dude comes piling out of that pickup with a tire iron in his hand. The skinny guy standing beside my jeep looked up and charged the guy coming at him. They began to fight in the middle of the street and I have ring side seat of it. Believe it or not the skinny guy was able to take that tire iron away from the big guy.All of a sudden I look in my rear view mirron and the deaf lady is behind the wheel of the car behind me and revs up and runs staight at her previous 'live in'. BAM, she hits him with the front of the car and he's up in the air and rolling off the hood to the ground. Quickly the skinny guy is working on him with the tire iron. "Shay Zam", I see my opening and I escape and drive to a convenient store a couple of blocks away and call my supervisor, he calls the cops and tells me to wait there and he'll come get the women's check and he did and told me to continue with my route. Now, wait I still have to go back around through that area and deliver the other side of Kennedy Street. When I turned the corner there were cop cars all over the place. The cops have both contestants under arrest and I ease on through the area and go on my way. Now that was some experience and pretty intence for a little bit, but I have never forgotten it. Now there's one more..... no that's enough for now, more later if requested.Papa

Uncle Hairy!

This is what I married and by the looks of him you wouldn't
think that 30 years later he'd be bald.
For the first 10 years of their lives Angie's boys
thought that is name was Uncle Hairy.
They never thought his name was Harry.
Ashton and Alex thought that it was the funniest joke
when they realized he was Harry and not Hairy.
You couldn't have proved it by him.
This is bald. Look at the glare of the top of that head!
So ladies, just prepare yourselves because
a little falls out every day until you wake up
one morning and you are married
to a bald man! And if you ask me now,
Bald is Beautiful!

Apple Dumplings!

Right off the bat let me tell you I didn't take this picture. It's the picture from one of my favorite blogs sites "The Pioneer Woman Cooks." She shared this recipe one day a few weeks ago and I've been dying to make them. I am going to make these Apple Dumplings for an open house this weekend so I thought I needed to do a trial run first. Winner!!! These will make you "slap yo mama!" So easy and quick. They have that "WOW" factor and you can really impress your guest with this one. If you'll click on her web site, The Pioneer Woman Cooks it will take you to her recipe. Yall have just got to try them. You won't be sorry. To give you a little tease, the surprise ingredient is Mt. Dew.
This is what mine looked like as I put them in the oven.

This is what mine look like when it came out of the oven.
You'll want to make them in a prettier pan for company.
You can not eat just one. Yall let me know when you make these and we'll see if you agree!
Apple Dumplings
2 Granny Smith apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoons vanilla
cinnamon
1 small can Mountain Dew
Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
I wanted to tell you that I did something different to the recipe that I think made a big difference. I sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on the crescent rolls before rolling the apple up in it. I like cinnamon and I don't think that they would have as big a wow factor with out it. Just my opinion. So if you make these add this step.

Real Treasure!

One day back in the fall Christon called from work. A lady she worked with was moving her Mother into an assisted living village. She was down-sizing and selling her home. She wanted to know if I'd be interested in some sewing things. Material, thread, buttons etc. etc. So I said yes and we went over that afternoon. I was not prepared for what I found when I got there! I though I had a collection of sewing things!?! But, I was wrong. This woman had a life time of sewing supplies. More that her years supply, more like a ten year supply! In her garage there was a wall unit stacked to the ceiling with bins of fabric. Organized by colors, may I say that I was so very overwhelmed. The orders were to take all I wanted. I came away with 4 of the 25 bins of fabric. (you might need to know I did get the bin of black fabric, my favorite color) I got all kinds of other things too about 10 small organizational boxes of rick rack, zippers etc. etc. As we were picking things out and loading things up this woman wanted us to take any thing else we saw that we wanted. There on the floor was a stack of blankets. My eye spotted this homemade quilt. I asked about it and she said take it. I said, "are you sure this looks hand made." She said "it is, My mother made it for my dad when he was in college. It's his alma mater." I'm like this is an heirloom. She said, "no, take it. My mother made so many quilts that we couldn't possibly keep all she ever made. We've got all the ones we wanted." So I snatched it up. It is thin and all stitched by hand. I think it is a treasure! It has become Harry's favorite! Look how old it is! 65 years old. I love it and it's the best free give away I've ever gotten. Wouldn't you agree. I went for some old fabric and came home with a real treasure! Picture above and a close up of one of the letters below.

Beautiful Day!

Travis and Jordan were sealed for Time and Eternity in the Orlando Temple yesterday March 4th. It was their 2nd anniversary. (What a way to celebrate an anniversary.) It couldn't have been a more perfect day! Thanks to all those who supported them and helped to make it so special. Here are a few of my favorite pictures.

This is us with Harry's parents, Trav's Grandpa and Grandma Griffis.

This is a picture of us with my parents, Trav's Papa and Grandmother Crenshaw.

Papa and Grandmother Crenshaw.

The Orlando Temple is so beautiful at night! You often don't get there and see it in the dark but it is so beautiful. I just wish I could have taken a picture with my camera that would do it justice.

4 Year Anniversary!

Today is our 4 year anniversary!
Four years ago today Harry and I were in Birmingham, Al. undergoing
Kidney donor and transplant surgery. Since the moment they put my kidney in
him there hasn't been one set back or problem with his transplanted kidney!
What a miracle, what a blessing!

This is a picture of us at Harrison and Christon's wedding.
Harry had been on Kidney dialysis for a year. It was 5 more months before our surgeries.

This was taken a few months ago. Comparing the difference is unbelievable. What a difference 4 years and a new kidney makes.
