30

Darling Daughter in Law turned 30 today.
She also requested cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake.
I didn't make her make her own.
I made it for her.
In her word's, "it was the bomb".
That's a good thing!
We had a family dinner last night
then she was off to her 12 hour shift at the hospital.

Early Summer 2012

I have a lot of cell phone pictures
that I need to dump here into my blog.
Memories of fun good times.

I have two sons.
They married Darling Girls.
I love them and love spending time with them.
I hope that I am always a good Mother In Law.

This is Jordan.
Affectionately know as Aunt Jor Jor.
She painted every ones nails before we went to dinner.

My oldest GRAND, Shelby.
Miss Freckles should be her name.
She looks so much like her daddy.
He has as many or more freckles.

My only GRAND Girls!
We really do hope to have some more one day.
I fear that these two will be grown by then.
Note the blue finger nails.
(Reagan is in Kindergarten and Shelby in 2nd grade this school year)

It's always fun to have your picture taken with the
alligator in front of the Caddy Shack at the World
Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida.

This was the only trip I got to take with the girls last year.
A far cry from all the years before.

Shreck Was A No Show

It was a real shame that Shrek never showed  up.
Trav showed up for chili and to help Gma to put together a new book shelf
on Halloween Eve but the costume never showed up with him :(
It's probably all my fault because when he was a child
we never did do much for Halloween.
Seems like they were always GI Joe wearing their camo hunting clothes.
Not real original.
I've never cared much for Halloween.

My DIL, the GRANDgirls mother, who worked
so hard her big freckles faded off during her work day.

Aunt Jor Jor, Fiona, with her friend from school, the Nerd.
Rea and Shel on the back.

The GRANDgirls

Family friends who came to trick or tread with our girls.

My MIL as the Red Headed Devil.
Shelby and Reagan's GREAT-GRANDma and Aunt Jor Jor.

Another year of silliness over with!!
Thanks heavens!!!!

The Thoughts Make Me Sick

Take 30 pounds of Apples.

And a spanking new wash tub.

And a crowd of cute kiddo's and you get this.
My assignment for the Primary Fall Festival, Apple Bobbing.
My Shelby went first (thank goodness)
Reagan is a smart girl, she wouldn't even try it.
The thoughts of apple bobbing in the midst
of cold and flu season just grosses me out!
All those germs just swirling around and around
makes me gag. I had a hard time even thinking about it
but fortunately most of the apples had nice long stems
and I encouraged the kids to pick up the apples by the stems.
That was very easy and most those little ones
were able to do just that :) Yay!!

This is my darling DIL. She is dressed as Fiona!
She always goes all out and enjoys herself.
Sad thing is, she has a Shrek costume for
Travis and he wants NO part of it!
She's got a few more days to talk him into it.
Wish her luck!

Labor Day Weekend

I'm back tracking for a bit.
Our summer was so crazy that I didn't blog much.
So I will randomly be adding post that will cover our summer activities.
Just for journal-ing purposes.
We have season passes to Sea World, Orlando, Florida.
We usually go in January for Shelby's birthday.
Again in March for spring break.
Then we usually go the end of October or in November.
But we NEVER go in the summer time!!!
Just go sometime and you will understand.
BUT...
we went to Orlando for the Labor Day Weekend
and since we had season tickets, the girls put in to go.
We waited till around 5:00 pm hoping that the heat would subside.
I was hot but bearable.

Reagan was sure happy to be there!

She has been so funny lately, she throws her hands up like

this when I try and take her picture.

I show you this picture because I want you to see that cup
that Shelby is drinking from.
That's my Sea World cup that if you bring back each
time you come your drinks are only 99 cents!
And this made the 2nd year I remembered to bring back my cup.
No one else remembers to bring theirs.

Reagan and Auntie Jordan.

We were waiting for the acrobatic show to start
and they always come out and sell the flashing light jewelry.
For $5.00 each they got some way cool Dolphin necklaces.

So when the lights go out they really are cool.

Really great show.

The girls wanted their pics taken with some of the dancers.

Uncle Trav wanted his picture taken with the girls.

This is where my Mid-Week Blues picture comes in.
This is the main thing we came to see,
Shamu Rocks!!
I finally started just at dusk!

It was wild and loud with Rock n Roll music.
Interestingly enough no trainer got in the water with the whales :(

The Sweetheart really loved the music because it
was mostly 70's and 80's hits and lots of his favorite.

We really did Rock Out!!!
So much so that we got our pictures up on
the jumbo screen for every one to see.
I nearly died but the girls loved it!

After Shamu Rocks
the girls and Aunt Jordan and Aunt Emmy
rode a few of the rides.

The girls wanted their mama to have one of the flashing hats.
I'm surprised she bought one but it make them all happy.
Uncle Travis ended up carrying the girls out of the park.
We really enjoy spending time together as a family and we had a great weekend.
**I took these pictures with my point and shoot camera. I really missed not having my big camera for this trip.

A Conch Shell

We were over on Jekyll Island taking pictures of Jordan's cousins that where here for spring break. They were looking for seashells and came across this conch shell. When Jordan picked it up it had the conch in it. Yuck, I've never seen one that had a live animal in it.

But just in case you do, here is a recipe for conch fritters.

We didn't eat it.

Conch Fritters

Fritters:
1 quart oil for frying
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
ground cayenne pepper to taste
seasoned salt to taste
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup chopped conch meat
1/2 onion, chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped

Dipping Sauce:
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 tablespoon hot sauce
salt and pepper to taste
Directions
1.Heat the oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).
2.In a bowl, mix the flour, egg, and milk. Season with cayenne pepper, seasoned salt, salt, and pepper. Mix in the conch meat, onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic.
3.Drop the batter by rounded tablespoons into the hot oil, and fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
4.In a bowl, mix the ketchup, lime juice, mayonnaise, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Serve dipping sauce on the side with the fritters.
Footnotes

Conch can be replaced with any seafood. We tried last week 'Calamari Fritters," following the same recipe but replacing conch with chopped calamari... it turned out awesome! We cannot wait to try it with shrimp or crab meat. Read about CONCH in our handy encyclopedia! We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.

One Really Long Puppy?

We thought this looked like one puppy but it's two.
Back end of Walgrin and the front end of Lili.
Auntie Jor Jor is holding the new Christmas Puppies.
Walgrin is Shelby and Reagan's new puppy
and Lili is my mama, Grandmother Crenshaw's new baby.

1:30 Update From Travis

He is good. They are keeping him sedated and he will be like that for a few days. He has 3 breaks in his pelvis 2 up front and one in the back. The bones are not displaced they will heal if he can stand the pain.
Love you,
Trav

Josh Update

MIRACLES ABOUND!!!
(email from Jordan)
The report on Josh as he was being escorted to the helicopter pad last night (9:20ish) was a fractured pelvis, multiple cracked ribs, punctured lung and lacerated liver. The ER doc said to us, "he's not stable, but he's not serious. He's guarded."

Josh was on highway 17 near Two Way Fish Camp when he got a call for a hit and run. He did a u-turn and was t-boned by a semi truck on his side. He had his chief's son Dillan with him (will be fine; maybe even got released last night?!) The fact that he survived is a miracle!

Here's where the good news comes in- by the time he arrived and went into surgery, his liver had stopped bleeding and his lung was working on its own. It also looks as if his pelvis will self-heal... still waiting for more on that. They went ahead and put him on a ventilator to help his body rest. They did find that he has broken his left foot (he had been trapped in the car and had to be cut out).

My dad convinced me to stay in Brunswick last night so I could sleep. Travis and I will head up there in just a few.

So, he's sleeping right now and we are awaiting the the report from the orthopaedic surgeon.
Thank you! thank you! thank you! for your thoughts and prayers! God hears and answers our prayers! We don't know how long at this point he's going to be at Memorial in Savannah. But, he's alive and he's stable. I will keep everyone posted! Please pray for a complete and speedy recovery!
Love, Jordan

This is the update from the post below. Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and prayers! Gigi

Prayers Please

If any one visits this blog tonight
could you please say some prayers
for Officer Josh Bain Jr.
He is the only brother of my sweet
daughter in law, Jordan.
He was responding to
at hit and run this afternoon
and was T-Boned by a Semi-truck.
They cut him out of his car
and he was responsive and talking.
But once at the hospital he
had some internal injuries
and as I type this they are air flight-ing
him to Savannah Ga. where a trauma
team waits to operate as soon as he
lands. One thing I know is he
has a punctured lung and a cut
on his liver and broken pelvis.
So please say some prayers
for him and his family.
Thank you dear bloggin friends.
You are a world of strength.

Happy Birthday Jordan

Shelby, her Aunt Jor Jor and Big Baby, Travis
We celebrated early by having a birthday dinner after church on Sunday. Life is busy and sometimes early is better than not at all.

Aunt Jor Jor had a little help in blowing out her candles. Of course we didn't put all 26 on there but we put enough so that she could blow some out. Wonder if Shelby will let Aunt Jor Jor help her blow hers out on Saturday, I bet not!
Happy Birthday
Jordan Kay Bain Griffis
we love you very much.
(Now what about some grand children from you and Trav???)
