Random Afterthoungts

Just want to start off by thanking you all for your comforting words at the loss of my aunt. I will attend her funeral tomorrow with the Sweetheart, my parents and my siblings that live on the east coast.

I started blogging because my cute niece Tara though I'd be good at it and helped me get it up and going. At the time I though that it would be a good way to keep the parents and siblings and other family member's up on the comings and goings of the Griffis household. And looked at it as an online journal. Since then it has turned into a way to share my pictures and other parts of my life too. I enjoy all the blogging friendships that I have made through blogging.Thank you for visiting each day and for the comments and encouragement that you leave each day. And last but not least I had a visitor last week.

I love turtles.

When we were growing up my daddy would bring them home when he found them on the road. We would play with them for a day or so and then they would crawl away. It brought back some of those fun memories.

The Week Started Off Sad

You know at some time we all get

those phone calls.

The ones with sad news.

You know they are coming but

they are still hard to hear.

This is my Aunt Thelma and her youngest daughter.

She is my daddy's oldest sister.

This picture was taken a year ago mothers day.

She passed away yesterday at 4:30 pm.

It's sad but a blessing to her and her family.

She has suffered with Alzheimer's the

last few years and it has been so hard.

We'll go to her funeral later in the week.

She lived up in middle GA. about a

4 hour ride from here.

Every year when I was growing up

she sent me a birthday card with a

stick of Juicy Fruit gum in it.
That was always fun to look forward to.

The last time I saw her she didn't

know me but still gave me the biggest hug.

Then I get a tearful phone call from Christon last night around 8:30.

Very distraught, the family dog, Copper was found dead last night when Harrison went out to feed him. He was fine when she came home from work at 5:30 and at 8:00pm he was dead. He was a great dog for the GRAND~girls. They loved him and will be very upset when they find out this afternoon. They were already asleep last night so didn't have to go through the drama last night.

Just a part of life but still sad.

Captain's having a baby boy!

She has done her nursery with a beach theme.

So we had her cake made with the same.

Isn't it to cute?

Same lady that has made the last

5 cakes we've bought did this one too!

It not only looks cute it tasted Divine.
That sand with the shells in it is brown sugar.

So clever.

I was trying to be a little creative.

I stood on the chair beside her.
I think she thought I was nuts.
Again I was trying to be creative.
I kind of like this angle.

Her name's not really Captain, it's Kathryn.
When Shelby was just leaning to talk
she called her Captain instead of Katheryn.
She really liked being called Captain so it stuck.
We all call her that now.


She got some really cute and
useful stuff for baby Collin.

Blue is for boys.

Every new mommy needs a monitor.

How do you like the way I cut

the top off her head off?

I guess I was trying to focus on the

burp cloth I made her.
I was excited because it's the first time

I had sewn on a letter on one that I've made.

This is the first time I've ever

made a fleece tied blankie.

I sewed a matching letter "C" on it too.
I thought it turned out pretty good

for the first one I've ever made.

She was excited and she loved it.

I liked it so well I made another

one with a letter C.

This one had an octopus on it and there were

several more with sea creatures on them.

But she really got excited about this one

and the next one. Not only did it have the

babies initials monogrammed on it but

it has the Georgia Bulldog's ribbon

and colors. She is crazy for football

and her favorite college team is the

University of Georgia's Bulldogs.

I think she loved them!


Kathryn and Christon have been friends since high school. She is a Cardiac Care Nurse at our local hospital.

Her husband Perry works for the sweetheart at Griffis Steel.

They were both in Harrison and Christon's wedding.

They are special to our family.

They are going to make great parents.

We've had a lot of rain and gray sky's.

But it has kept the temperatures down some.

Tiny~er Dancer

Tiny Dancer's little sister, Tiny~er Dancer started dance class this week. Courtney sent me these pictures.

These are just so stinkin cute I don't know what to say.

A whole class full of Tiny~er Dancers all in pull~ups just cracks me up!

This picture has the 3 cousins in it.

And Mackenzie right beside Rae

And yes that is Madigan off to the far right helping the teacher show the tiny~er dancers what to do.

This weeks Theme: Relaxation
Lena of Spirit of Lena (SOL) suggested the topic 'Relaxation'. "My idea for relaxation was anything or place that fill people with a sense of calmness or relaxation, like a favorite garden, sitting on the porch, or park, etc. Anyplace that fills them with a sense of happiness and calm."

For the last 32 years this sweetheart has "filled me with a sense of happiness and calm"!

Watching these two dig at the

beach is very relaxing.

Baking is very relaxing for me.

Notice I didn't say "cooking."


For me, sewing is relaxing.
I also enjoy making the GRAND~girls hair bows.

I also love ironing and find it relaxing.

Sometimes I put in a good movie and

iron through the whole thing.

(sorry about the dead animal)

All my men hunt.

When hunting season starts and they head

to the woods before daylight and do not

come home until after dark, I get to do

what I want all day long and don't have to cook :)

now that's relaxing.

Fresh ocean air and sunshine is very relaxing.

Having a two year old massage your feet at

the local water park is also a fun way to relax.

In the afternoons after Pop Pop

comes home from work we all take

a relaxing ride around the neighborhood

looking for the ice cream man.

Rain and thunderstorms are relaxing.

Boating and fishing are definitely relaxing.

Reading and reading to the Grand~girls

is a great form of relaxation.

And at the end of the day watching the

beautiful sunset is the best form of relaxation.

Blink And You'll Miss It

If you get off of Interstate I~95 and drive

north to Savannah on Hyw 17 you will be going

about 65 miles an hour when you pass this sign.

It's about a mile before you get to South Newport.

Stop, pull over on the side of the road

and turn around.

Go back and see what you missed.

This is what you see from the road.

Yes, it's the smallest Church in America.

Well, that is what the sign says anyway.

Pull on in and park and get out.

I've never seen anyone here.

Just go on in and make your self at home.

When you open the door the light comes on!

It is very welcoming.

As you can see it holds 13 people.

12 plus the Preacher.

See the podium to the front right?

You are suppose to sign in as a visitor.
You can sit down and have a word of prayer

or just think a bit or even break out in song.

You can go to the front and preach

a great sermon if you feel the need.

I've not really done any of those things.

But it is fun to stop by every few years.

I think this made my 4th time.

Things haven't changed much.

These are real stain glass windows.

Very pretty.

A year or so ago I saw in our local paper

where a couple got married in this church.

It's free of charge, they say.

Not really sure who they are.

I don't know why but I am afraid to look behind it.

I was telling the sweetheart that I stopped

by the "Smallest Church in America"

a few weeks ago and he said,

"They haven't added on to that place yet?"

South Newport, Georgia: The still active Memory Park Christ Chapel is called the "Smallest Church in America." Built in 1950, it measures 10 ft. x 15 ft., has space for 13 people, a shrimpy pulpit, pews and a stained glass window with just enough space for Jesus. Grocer Agnes Harper built the church, and wrote the deed in the name of Jesus Christ. It is open 24/7 to all denominations.


Smallest Church in America:
Address: Coastal Hwy 17, South Newport, GA
Directions: Just south of I-95, on hwy. 17, 10 minutes from Shellman Bluff. Take I-95 exit 67 and approximately one mile south on Coastal Highway 17. Look for a sign on the side of the road that is white with blue letters half hidden with trees.
