Live Entertainment

We had surprise visitors come to our Crenshaw Christmas party.
The Savannah Crenshaw's brought their very good friends with them this year.
Lisa and her girls wanted to surprise me and boy did they!
It was a most delightful surprise.
Come again any time Lisa :)
We were fortunate to have live MUSICAL entertainment!
(We always have family entertainment but not of such high quality.)
These girls did an awesome job of a variety of Christmas music,
I was very proud of all of them.

Deborah and Amelia are best friends.
Amelia is my niece.
Da'Nette is Deborah's older sister.
This is Lisa, the mother of Da'Nette and Deborah.

This is my Brother Sanford aka "Barney's Friend Chris" and his wife Sheri, the parents of Amelia.

Kudos to these parents for doing what it takes to get their daughters to and from music lessons and putting up with the at home practicing that it takes to be such accomplished musicians. They are wonderful young ladies.

We enjoyed it so much!

Happy 12th Birthday Anna!
I just can't believe that you are 12 today.
You are my favorite niece named Anna.
Love you much.

75th

Happy 75th Birthday Elvis!

I thought I'd give you a heads up that tomorrow is Elvis birthday, should you need a reason to celebrate this Friday. I really didn't want you to miss out on any fun times.

So hurry and plan ahead.

Great day to have an "Elvis Party"

Go ahead and plan on having these wonderful Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches, yum yum!

Elvis Presley's Grilled Peanut Butter
and Banana Sandwich

•2 slices of white bread
•2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter
•1 small ripe banana
•2 tablespoons butter
Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the banana on the other. Press the slices gently together. Melt the butter (or to be truly Elvis-like, melt bacon fat!), over low heat in a small frying pan. Place the sandwich in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.

Enjoy!

Baby Jacob

Jacob Lane M. is my DIL, Christon's, first nephew.
He is the first boy on her side of the family!
They are pretty proud of him and I just think he is one precious child.
These were a few of my favorite from his photo shoot.

Daddy David and Mama Chelsey,
thank you for letting me practice on baby Jake.

Tasty Tuesday

Naughty Cornbread
1 yellow cake mix
2 Jiffy cornbread mixes

Oil, milk, and eggs according to package directions
Preheat oven according to directions on cake mix box. Combine cake mix and cornbread mixes in a large bowl. Add eggs, oil, and milk according to package directions (replace all water with milk). Mix together according to cake mix directions.

Now...this makes a lot of cornbread, and if it were easy to half it, I would. However, I never trust myself to accurately cut a cake mix in half, so I just make all the cornbread and then freeze the leftovers. I like to make 1 pan of muffins (12)
and 1 9x13" pan of cornbread, for no other reason than it fits into my oven all at the same time. You could also do a 9x13" pan and an 8x8" or 9x9" pan; it's all up to you. Just bake according to cake mix directions (about 20 minutes for muffins or 30 minutes for a 9x13 pan").

Fun good times.

I guess I'm going to try and get back to my photography habits. I think that it is the only way to get any better at learning to use my camera.

Happy New Years 2010

Here in the South we celebrate the New Year by eating black-eyed peas and greens, either just after midnight or on New Year's Day.

According to Southern folklore, this is to be eaten on New Year's Day for luck and prosperity throughout the year ahead.

The practice of eating black-eyed peas for luck is generally believed to date back to the Civil War. At first planted as food for livestock, and later a food staple for slaves in the South, the fields of black-eyed peas were ignored as Sherman's troops destroyed or stole other crops, thereby giving the humble, but nourishing, black-eyed pea an important role as a major food source for surviving Confederates.

Served with greens (collards, mustard or turnip greens, which varies regionally), the peas represent coins and the greens represent paper money. In some areas cabbage is used in place of the greens. (I will be eating cabbage, because I HATE GREENs!!) The Sweethearts mother loves him more than I do apparently because she makes him turnip greens and I just refuse to do so :}

Cornbread, often served with black-eyed peas and greens, represents gold.

I wouldn't dare think of not having this on New Years day.

It's just the only way to start off the new year on the right foot.

It's tradition.

Do you have any particular traditions for New Years Day?

Once in a

Blue Moon.

Did you know that it was tonight.

A blue moon is a Full Moon that is not timed to the regular monthly pattern. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but in addition to those twelve full lunar cycles, each solar calendar year contains an excess of roughly eleven days compared to the lunar year. The extra days accumulate, so that every two or three years (7 times in the 19-year Metonic cycle), there is an extra full moon. The extra moon is called a "blue moon." Different definitions place the "extra" moon at different times. Wikipedia
