Poor Dawson

Sorry about another puppy post but I got the biggest kick out of these pictures of Rea with her puppy. It was the first time she ever saw him and got to hold him.

She's in love!
Him, not so much.

Last Nights Visitors

My sister and her daughter Anna came to visit last night for a few minutes. These are Anna's puppies.

This is "Tanner."

She got him on Christmas Eve.

This is "Monson."

I brought him to her on Sunday on our way home from Florida.

He is "Walgrin" and "Dawson's" brother.

Yes, we have all lost our minds!

And that is not all, my mama and daddy have two of them!!

They've got one female named "Lily" and a male "Little Man"

(he is the runt of the family)

Of course she wanted to hold the Sweetheart's baby "Bentley".
He was so tired.
She came because she wanted me to take her picture with her puppies.
She is so cute.
Any chance I get to use my camera is a good thing.

1 Year

I took this picture last year at Sea World. Feb. 2009

Christon took this one this past Saturday.
What a difference a year makes :)

One Of These Things

One of these things is not like the others,

One of these things just doesn't belong,

Can you tell which thing is not like the others,

By the time I finish this song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?

Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?

If you guessed this one is not like the others,

Then you are absolutely right!

After 15 years of a no~dog home,
we have lost our minds and got a new puppy.
This little white American Bulldog
will now be our guard dog.
We welcome 8 1/2 pound, 7 week old "Bentley"
to our family.
Also pictured above are the GRAND~girls new puppies.
You've met "Walgrin" (in the tan collar)
and now we have his brother "Dawson" (in the blue collar).
I had all three of them plus the Grands at the Veterinarian
after school today. I know you can just imaging
how fun that was for us all :)

If You're Cold...

You should relax in the sunshine
in Florida!
It was 75* on Saturday
as we visited Sea World.
A Most Perfect Day!
As we left town on Sunday
it was 80*
How's that for January 24?

Happy Birthday Girl's birthday cake.
And can you believe I didn't even get a piece!
I can't either!
I had a meeting and had to leave early :(

5 Years Old

Today is Shelby's 5th birthday.

Wow, has 5 years gone by fast!

She is one silly girl.

We will celebrate at Sea World, Orlando this weekend.

Then we will come back by Papa and Grandmother Crenshaw's

house to pick up Walgrin and his brother.

Both girls are so excited to get their hands on those puppies.

Not sure those puppies are ready for them.

Happy Weekend!

3 Years Old

Happy Birthday Gracie Irene!

Tasty Tuesday

This is another one of those family recipes that
seems to show up every Thanksgiving and Christmas
around the Crenshaw and Griffis homes.
My mama got the recipe years ago from my daddy's niece, I think.
She can correct me if I'm wrong.
It's always been a favorite of a lot of people.
Blueberry Roll in not really a "roll" at all!
It's just fixed in a 10x13 pan, there is no
rolling of any kind unless you roll your eyes or something else :)
I'm surprised that I have never
posted it on this blog or my private recipe blog.
So for prosperity and for the record, here's the recipe.
Blueberry Roll

Crust:
1 1/2 cups self~rising flour
1 1/2 sticks butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans

Filling:

20oz. can of blueberry pie filling

Topping:
1 8oz. pkg. cream cheese
1/2 cup milk
3/4 sugar
1 med. cool whip

Directions: Mix all crust ingredients together and press into a greased 10x13 pan. Bake at 325* for 25 minutes.

Let cool completely.

Spread on can Blueberry Pie filling over the cooled crust. (If you don't like blueberries you can use blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries or any other pie filling of your choice)

Topping: Cream together the room temperature cream cheese and sugar. Add milk and mix and then fold in the cool whip. Pour topping over the pie filling and cover and refrigerate until cold and firm.

Horse And Carriage Ride

Harrison and Christon gave us a two night stay
in Charleston, S. C. the week of Christmas.
We were celebrating our 32 wedding anniversary.
I always have to take a horse drawn carriage ride.
I've done it every time I've been.
I love it and I love Charleston!

Pretty Bird

Not sure what kind of duck this is but I thought they were beautiful.
I took this a few weeks ago at the Jacksonville Fl. Zoo.
The GRAND~girls are out of school on Monday and so we are going back to the Zoo. I'll look them up again and find out what they are called.

Tasty Tuesday

Confession: This is the first time in my life that I have soaked beans. Like it is so hard or something :) I used my black beans I got in bulk from the cannery. I also used my own homemade chicken stock. I forgot the cornstarch, I took out a big bowl full of beans and then pureed the rest then threw the bowl of beans back in the pot. I added a little cheese and a dollop of sour cream and this is an awesome soup!
I loved it and so did the Sweetheart.

Zestified Black Bean Soup
Ingredients
2 cups dried black beans
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp ground cumin
1 Tbsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups of homemade chicken stock or canned
1 10 oz. can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
2 Tbsp cornstarch

1. Soak black beans overnight in a bowl full of water. If you forget to soak, as I often do, then add the beans to boiling water, remove from heat and let soak for 2 hours. Once soaked, drain and rinse. More on cooking dried beans here.

2. Add the soaked and rinsed beans to large saucepan and cover with 2 inches of water. Add the chopped onion, crushed garlic, cumin, lemon juice, and salt in with the beans. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and cover. Cook for about an hour.

3. After an hour, add the homemade chicken stock and the undrained can of Rotel diced tomatoes and green chilies. Let the soup simmer for another 30 minutes, or until the beans have softened.

4. Then add the cornstarch. Sift and whisk at the same time to keep from getting clumpy in the soup! ( I forgot to add this)

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday

Jordan Bain Griffis aka Jor Jor
We love you very much and hope for you a fantastic day!

Creamy Peanut Butter Pie

Ingredients
1 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
1 8 oz package of plain cream cheese
1 8 oz container of cool whip
1 cup of confectionery sugar

Directions
Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit out for a while. Mix the peanut butter and the cream cheese together until there are no lumps left. Add in the confectionery sugar. Mix well and add cool whip. Pour evenly into your favorite pie crust (graham cracker crust usually goes well with this pie). Cover and let the pie sit in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours or until firm. For added taste you can sprinkle crushed Butterfinger or Snickers candy bars over the top, or even mix them into the pie itself.

This is the first time I ever made a peanut butter pie and it turn out pretty yummy.

I also used Extra Crunchy Jif peanut butter, my favorite!

I don't believe in creamy peanut butter.

Roll Poll

How do you roll your TP??

Over or under?
I like it under.
I guess I'm a rare breed.
But then we all knew that.
Go here and vote :)

Who knew

That a casual stroll around Bed, Bath and Beyond with the GRAND~girls

we would find this!!!!!!!!!

(And she just knew that that was a picture of Walgrin, himself!)

And since this little one is so in love with Walgirn!

and she got one of these for Christmas!
~
She had dreams of having one of these cute little Pet Snuggies for her little puppy friend that matched hers!
~
You know all wrapped up in each others arms and snuggies on the couch watching TV.
~
I reminded her that Walgrin was a boy and needed a blue one so we should wait and get a blue one.
~
She didn't want a blue one!
~
Boys can wear pink too.
~
Yes, they can wear pink.
~
But Walgrin is still at GREAT~Grandmother's and GREAT~Papa's house in Florida.
~
Well we need him back, now!
~
And we need his brother too!
~
Yes we do!
~
Mama and daddy can I come get them next week???
~
(They were trying to keep them until Shella's birthday two weeks from now, just to let them grow a little more before taking on a life with a 4 and 2 year old.)
~
But I can come get them next weekend if you are more than ready to get rid of them :)
~
I did some fast talking to not have to buy that Pet snuggie with a promise to make him one with my sewing talents.
~
What? Do you even think it will take an 1/8 of a yard for two of them?
~
Anyone have a pattern?
~
What color do you think we should make them?
~
I guess pink won't really hurt.
