200th Post Contest

Hey yall, this is my 200th post!
So time for a little give away.
I thought since I posted about
Charles Martin yesterday, that
I would offer the winner one of his books!
Your choice! Just leave a little comment
on who your favorite author is and I'll draw
a name on Saturday morning and
post the winner. Lets end this contest,
midnight EST Friday, 08/08/08!

Now I know that most days I have 20-25 different visitors. Some days even more. But most days only 5 or 6 of you leave a comment. Now is the time to come out of the closet. If you still haven't figured out how to leave a comment then e-mail me and I'll post one for you. Come on, play along it's not that hard and it can be fun, especially if you win! Good Luck!

Ellen Shanman.

She has opened my eyes to the world of words like no one else can or has in a long time. It's a pity she can't write faster, she has only two books published thus far.

I'm a huge fan of the classic literature: The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, East of Eden by John Steinbeck, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (my all time favorite), and currently reading Jane Eyre, enjoying it very much.
And if you want to read one of the most hilarious authors try Patrick McMannus "Really Ponies don't go oink." Not a classic but you won't stop laughing.

I don't know that I have an absolute fav, I just really like to read. I do like sophie kinsella "Shopoholic" books. Also like EMily Giffin and Nichols Sparks. I don't know I am really bad about seeing the cover of a book and just reading it to see how good it is, sometimes it gets me in trouble. Oh well I love to read.

I was sad to not see my very favorite not listed yet. I So lOve Besty Brannon Green. She is an LDS Writer. I have all of her Books and I've met her a couple of times and she oh so sweet. I think she has 12 books. They are Mysteries that senter around a little town in the south. In some of her books she'd added recipes in the back of the delicious things some of the folk in Haggerty make. The pound cake is a winner. I have a lending Library. I went to the school supply and got the cute little book pockets and cards and have friends check my books out. I would love to win a new book. Please read her 1st book "Hearts in Hiding" it is wonderful! Twilght series would be my second, except I wasn't impressed with the last book.

I have soooo very many favorite authors I can't even begin to choose one!

My favorite poets are:
Helen Steiner Rice and James J. Metcalf.
Everyone knows Helen's Poems - they are in card shops every where. She and I could be twins in our thinking. Go online and read an exerpt from her biography "Ambasssador of Sunshine", I have the book and it touches me so. You children have given me so many of her books for b'days & Mother's Days. I treasure them all.

Probably no one who reads your blog knows James J. Metcalf. I am fortunate to possess his book "Love Portraits" copyright 1953. In the 50's he had a daily syndicated column newspapers and every day I would clip his poem out. I'd send one to your dad in my weekly letters.
Here is one in the same format he wrote them:
In Your Hands
My heart is in your loving hands. . .To do with as you will. . .Because you made a promise that. . .I know you will fulfill. . .You promised you would be my own. . .For all the years ahead. . .To love and to honor me. . .And keep me comforted. . . You whispered it and kissed my lips. . .Without a touch of fear. . .And in that moment life was sweet. . .And no one else so dear. . .I took your word and in return. . .I pledged my love to you. . .And promised I would do my best. . .To make your dreams come true. . .And now I have the courage for. . .Whatever life demands. . .Because I know at last my heart. . .Is in Your loving hands. . . by James J. Metcalf
I just went online and read his bio - velly interesting!!!

Soooo many favorite authors - Leo Buscalglia; Eugenia Price; Zane Grey - recently Katherine Cookson; and Dick Francis. Favorite book/movie "Dr. Zchivago" "To Kill A Mockingbird" " The Quiet Man".

If I don't win, You can just loan me yours...

Hugs, Love And Prayers Always,
mum

It's hard for me to say who my favorite author is ... so he's a list of author/books that have had had a profound affect on me.

Harper Lee - To Kill A Mockingbird
J D Salinger - The Catcher In the Rye
Somerset Maugham - The Razor's Edge
Barbara Kingsolver - The Bean Trees, Animal Dreams
Fannie Flag - Daisy Fae and the Miracle Man
Gerald N. Lund - Fire of the Covenant
Thomas Hardy - The Mayor of Casterbridge
Harriet Beecher Stowe - Uncle Tom's Cabin

To name a few.

I've read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer ... I like the vampire stuff, but Bella makes me crazy with all that teen angst ... she's supposed to be this really smart girl, but she's not all that bright! Her book The Host was excellent!

Right now I'm listening to a book on CD that has me busting out laughing ... At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon ... I like a book that will make me laugh and has some goofy/real life characters and she has managed to put that all together in this book.

Congratulations on 200 posts!!! We should all give you a prize for giving us something to look at everyday!!

Love ya

I can read but apparently can't write. I usually pride myself on being correct in spelling and grammar but my last post makes me seriously worried about myself. Where is spell check on blogging?
I meant to say I love the writings of all of my children and my daughter-in-law, Haley Beth.

Books by James Grisham, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, J.K. Rowling are just a few that I've read in the past few years. I never win anything, so good luck everyone else! love you sis,
