East End Road, San Mateo, Florida
On the way home from our New Years Weekend
in Cocoa Beach, Florida, we wanted to stop by my
home town and see my mama and daddy a few minutes.
Coming up Hwy 17 and before we came into Palatka
I wanted to go by the old church.
The picture above was taken just after we passed the church.
When I was 12 or 13, we met
in this old church while the new chapel
was being built in Palatka.
I have lots of fun memories of when we attended our meetings here.
My brother remembers we were meeting here
when he had his 8 year old baptism interview with Bishop Crabtree.
I remember the Y.W. having fashion shows
for modest clothing at the time.

One of those memories was of my Grandpa Padgett speaking.
He was a great speaker.
He would even pound the pulpit sometimes.
He got your attention, not that he really needed to,
no one ever slept through one of Grandpa's sermons.
I sure wish I could hear him preaching one of those sermons again.
Another thing about this building, it had a basement.
If you know anything about the south,
you know we don't have basements.
I do remember a time that the older youth
met in that basement for Sunday school.
But most times it had standing water in it.

I was glad to see the old church still standing
and I had fun remembering the good old days.

By the looks of things it is no longer in use.

I love your memories of the church. Lovely pictures.
Nothing like revisiting the past! This is such a quaint little church and I can only imagine the activites in and around it, in days gone by!
I enjoyed last night at the camera club...hope we can go out on a photo shoot soon.
That old church goes way back to the 20's and up to the 70's.
It is now used as a storage of one of the Tilton's honey bee business.
Nice photo of old eastend road.
Love,
Daddy
I love the story!
Why don't they have basements in the South?
Was it scary in there?
It is so cool that you could enjoy stopping and having that moment.
I really like that top picture and wish I could walk down the lane...and wonderful memories to go along..
what fun memories of that old church house.
reminds me of visiting my grandparents when young...and going to the church house that we had there (it is no longer there), and it was quaint, an old pump organ, old fashioned benches....
great great memories there.
and I think MORE people need to pound on the pulpit.
Cool old church and double cool that the ward used to meet there. Not something that would happen today for sure! Loved your memories.
I also did not know that the south has no basements.
P.S. Are you doing Cell phone Saturday tomorrow? I've been saving my pictures :-D
