Sewing Lessons

The nieces came from the north and the south. The northern niece got a sewing machine for Christmas. Aunt Gigi gave sewing lessons most of the day yesterday.
Northern niece made her first pillow case. She said she would probably give it to her brother. It's a little to wild for her dreams.
Even though southern niece said her mother won't let her touch her sewing machine, she got lessons too.

They made pocketbooks out of place mats. She did it all by herself except the buttons. She can sew buttons on by hand because I taught her a few years ago but we wanted to learn how to sew them on using the machine.

I made most of the southern nieces pocket book, but she did help!

They also made toiletry bags out of place mats. They turned out pretty cute. They were happy campers, no happy seamstresses.

Such wonderful projects. I wish I had more time to sew. At the moment I'm piecing together a baby quilt for one of my coworkers who is expecting a boy in March.

Nothing like a good ole sewing boot camp. I'm blown away by the quality of work. I'm glad you took the time to teach them! I have some trousers I need her to hem ... I'll be cracking the whip on her when she gets home!

Sewing is a dying talent. Glad to see you're keeping it alive, I wish I knew a little more.

It's wonderful that you are teaching them to sew. The time you spend with them are precious memories they will always cherish.

Blessings of happiness, health, and prosperity to you and your family in 2009. Susan

Will you teach me how to sew? I can hand sew buttons, but I have no idea how to use a sewing machine. When my great-grandma died I got her old (as in 80's or 90's model) Brother sewing machine. I have still never used it.

what a great thing to teach these girls. Sewing is becoming a lost art. I started out teaching my girls (Emily) but I have slacked more and more with each one. Maybe I will drop them off with you for a while. :-P

That is awesome. What a great gift and so important to already start learning some of those very handy skills.
Happy New Year! Hope you have fun tonight!

Gigi started sewing when she inherited her Grandmother Crenshaw's sewing machine with her passing. As I remember, Gigi sewed many of her own clothes.

Every one needs an Aunt Gigi.

Papa

In all fairness I did offer to teach Aramie to sew but she was not interested when she was a teenager. Hillary did some sewing back then and I was happy to help her.
I haven't done a lot of sewing but Haley was right sewing is a dying art.
I love you and I want to be like you when I grow up. I admire your energy and determination.
I got a serger for Christmas and I am afraid to take it out of the box. I watched the video that came with it and it looks so complicated. Happy New Year dear Friend.

P.S What I meant to say is that I haven't done a lot of sewing lately. I used to sew things for the kids and Bob all of the time in the olden days.

Gigi, I am sure you are a "special aunt" to those girls! I love going to the "Alligator Farm." Christmas in Utah is a lot different (weather wise) than Georgia. Happy New Year! We'll probably see you sometime in 2009, but no definite plans, now.

Cute kids! Thanks for some ideas for the sewing machine. My husband gave me one for Christmas and I was looking for something simple to start out with.

It is not as easy as you may think. THe only reason they are cute is because Aunt Gigi did most of it.
