in upper north east Missouri.
Heading into town looking for the Wal Mart.
Little did I know it was one of those really old and little Wal Mart's, not a super store like I am use to here in Brunswick. They didn't have any fresh fruit so I went next store to the grocery store.
It was a nice clean small town grocery store. It was so clean and everyone was so friendly and helpful. I got 2 bananas, 2 apples, a box of hot chocolate and a box of granola bars. I paid for it and started to grab my bags from the bag boy but he wouldn't let me have them! Then the cashier came around and got my cart and put it up. I told the nice young man that I could carry my two sacks, "no, I'll carry them for you" he said. I said "well that's okay it's only those two small sack and I think I can carry them myself." "No Mame, that's my job and I'm going to carry them for you." I tell ya, I really felt silly letting him carry those few things.
As we were walking to the truck an Amish man in his horse and buggy pulled up and parked off to the side of the parking lot in the grass. I was surprised at the site. I asked the young man about him. He said that he came to shop every Friday. I thanked the young man and got in the truck and cranked up. I rolled the window down and asked him where the Amish community was and he said "about ten miles up the road." I said where is it and what's the name of it, he said "it's called 'Ten Mile', and it's that way" he pointed.
For some reason I think that this sign was funny after the conversation I had just had with the bag boy.
Ten Mile is 4 miles to the left.
And this is coming up on the cross roads of Tenmile.
That's really all that there is except for more corn fields and farm houses and barns.
To be continued...

Very interesting. I look forward to more pictures and any information about the Amish country there.
Gigi thanks for sharing your trip, I do like the Ten Mile sign; it is funny. I've gotten caught up with your site and WOW to the deer your son shot.
I love the amish country. We visited Pennsylvania in April. They are good people. Auntie from snow country
Thank you for the pictures and the story. Yes, ten mile 4 miles made me smile too, but then it must be 10 miles from somewhere else?
PS Thanks for the offer of letting me and Izzy come and hide out at your place, unfortunately the coffers won't stretch to transatlantic flights! Shame, I'd love to visit the US again.
I will have something for you on my blog tomorrow.
Your little farm town looks like a charming place to live. I love the open space. We don't have much in Seattle proper.
I love the pic of Tenmile. You are a fabulous little photog and that shot of the men on the horses at the Temple was beautiful. I've missed a few days but I caught up, now. Love all the pics from the trip and can't wait for more.
