Stilts

Now here's some fun good times! Have you ever walked on stilts? My grandpa and daddy made us some when I was a child. We had several sets. Ours were never very tall but taller that this set in the picture! I think all my siblings except Claire can and have walked on stilts. That's another one of my many obscure talents. I always loved playing with them. It's been a few years since I've done it but I still have good balance and If I had a pair, I think I could still do it. It provided a lot of fun and I'm sure a lot of skinned knees and bruises. It's one of my summer time memories. You can go here for instructions on how to walk on stilts and here you can find the directions on how to make your own set. When you get your set finished just call and I'll come over and show you how it's done.

They look fun, but I would probably fall too many times to really enjoy them. My girls might like it though.

I remember making these stilts for you kids and your cousins. It fun watching y'alls determinations to learn how to walk on them. Yeah, you fall a lot at first but after a while you get the hang of it and it's so much fun. I may have to make them for my grandkids now that you have brought up the memories.

We have Eli and Max for a few days and 9 year old Eli, a cub scout, needed to build a Bird House for one of his projects. After breakfast that's the first thing we did. I drew up the plans, selected the wood and we both did the sawing and hammering to build it. I wanted him involved in making it so he would get credit for it and also that he might learn from it and also make memories with Papa.

Love,
papa

I think I would like to put my pants on over them and look a foot taller! I guess I'll have to have some special shoes made.

Learned something new about you. I guess walking on stilts is comparable to riding a bike. It always stays with you. Glad Harry is home!

Yes, my dad made me a set. I love them!

He also did a stilt walk up a very steep hill for charity while his friend did it on roller skates! They both had buckets strung round their necks which people threw money in as they climbed the hill. Great fun! Thanks for provoking the memory.
