Federal Grand Jury

There is a little jealousy at our house.

Our oldest son was called and chosen to be on

the Federal Grand Jury. He is one of 23 chosen

from a group of 43 individuals.

His Dad, my sweetheart, LOVES Jury Duty!

He can watch court TV for hours.

This would have been a dream come true for him.

Not so much the son that was chosen.

But he did sound okay with it last night.

He will serve for 6 months.

It's not as bad as it sounds.

He will only go the first week of every month.

He gets to stay at the hotel of his choice.

He gets up to $150.00 a day for his

expenses plus $40.00 for his service.

He will have to stay down town Savannah.

It is 85 miles from his home here in Brunswick.

The funny thing about this Son being chosen,

is that he his one crazy deer hunter.

Hunting season starts in just a few weeks.

I mentioned that to him with a little laugh

and he told me "no worries" he's already

planed his hunting around this service.

The son's wife isn't to excited.

She's a full time working mom that is also

taking two college classes. That one week will

be a little crazy for her because he is a

big help with the girls. But that is

what GRAND parents are for, right?

Sounds like a fun adventure to me!

I've only been summoned once, and I wasn't even called in. I would like to serve on at least one jury.

At least he gets a change of scenery. I would love to be stuck in Savannah once a week for 6 months. It sounds like an adventure to me.

Stuck in Savannah doesn't sound too bad :-)

I'll keep Harry in mind the next time I get summoned. I can't stand jury duty. I've done it twice and been seated both times.

P.S. I have an award for you!

Never have had this duty, but a coworker of mine did. Tell Harrison to visit his Uuncle Sandy for dinner one evening, and maybe I can meet him over there. (I'll cook something too)

I did jury duty twice and was called in a 3rd time for a well known murder cae that had been appealed. While sitting in the judges chambers with the accused, and both attorneys, I was told that this trial could last 2 weeks, would I be OK with that? I said, while looking at the accused's red tie, that my kids would MURDER me if we missed our Stake Lagoon Day! They excused me from serving because as the judge stated, "We wouldn't want to have another murder case on our hands!"
I think they could tell I had already formed an opinion.
btw, I was only paid $14.00 a day for serving! Where's the justice there?
Hope your son enjoys it.

I have never been called for jury duty and have always wanted to. The Marine? got called when he was in boot camp. How not fair is that?

That's funny my hubby just got out of Jury duty..he kinda wanted to get it because it looked interesting. I use to like sitting in on trials for my judge back in Utah..but it was juvenile so sometimes it wasn't so pleasant..wish him luck!! Sorry for the wife though.

I was chosen to be on a jury in federal court for a BIG drug case.
We were sequestered (is that spelled right?)for the entire time,
oh what FUN. I was single at the time, and had a 4 or 5 yr old child. I had to communicate with child & family through the U.S. Marshall officer. And oh yeah, I learned more than I ever wanted to about CRACK!!

What an awesome time for your son. He'll be able to see the justice system in action. Our neighbor is a recently retired judge and he always told us that we shouldn't poo-poo being on jury duty.
Have fun with the grandgirls.

My mom likes jury duty too. I served on a case once, and it was SO hard to decide on a verdict and it wasn't even like, a murder trial. I can't even imagine being involved in a murder trial. Hope all his cases are easy!!!
Hope your daughter in law makes it through ok.
